New functionality is being introduced to improve the visibility of patients’ periprocedural code status. This will improve code status communication for patients with DNR or DNR/DNI orders prior to surgery or procedures.

This new periprocedural code status order has been created and added to preprocedural order sets.

  • The temporary code status order will be active when the patient arrives in the preprocedural area.
  • The order will be automatically discontinued when the patient leaves the procedural area.
  • The temporary periprocedural code status will be visible next to the existing code status order in the storyboard.

This change will be introduced to VUMC Campus Adult Main OR and VUMC Surgery Centers on May 14. It will be implemented at these later dates at other VUMC locations:

  • June 11 — Procedure Suites including GI, IR, and Cath Labs (including regional hospital procedure suites)
  • July 23 — VTHH, VBCH and VWCH Main ORs
  • Aug. 18 — Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt
