Thomas Netolicky, CPA, MAc, has been named Vice President of Clinical Department Finance for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Netolicky joins VUMC from University of Iowa Health Care where he has held many roles in finance over the past 16 years, including most recently serving as director of Financial Reporting and Controller for University of Iowa Health Care and chief financial officer for University of Iowa Health Ventures. Prior to that he worked in public accounting at KPMG LLP. He is a certified public accountant, certified healthcare financial professional, and has a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa.
Netolicky replaces longtime VUMC employee Craig Carmichel, former Vice President of Finance, Academic and Research Enterprise, who retired in late 2017 after nearly two decades of service to the Medical Center. In addition to assuming many of Carmichel’s former duties, Netolicky will provide collaborative financial leadership and support to the clinical departments and the academic enterprise. He assumes this new role on March 26.
“I’m pleased that such a uniquely qualified and talented leader is joining the Finance team,” said Cecelia Moore, MHA, CPA, VUMC Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. “Tom comes to us with a strong record of successful collaboration with a broad range of professionals including clinical staff, administrators and auditors. He has a wealth of experience in the fiscal operations of a major academic medical center and we look forward to his leadership as VUMC continues to expand its clinical enterprise.”
In his most recent role at University of Iowa Health Care, Netolicky served as a strategic leader during major expansion efforts, including acquiring and opening new clinics throughout Iowa and opening a new children’s hospital, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, in February 2017.
“I really enjoy working in the academic medical center setting, and especially with clinical departments,” Netolicky said. “The role of central finance is always important, but especially so in these challenging and increasingly competitive times in healthcare. Providing accurate and timely financial information is key to making good decisions, and that’s what I enjoy. I’m excited to join the Vanderbilt University Medical Center team.”
Netolicky said the many similarities in size and clinical programs between VUMC and the University of Iowa Health Care should make his transition a smooth one, and his family, including wife, Sara, and daughters, Kate, 15, and Caroline, 12, are looking forward to moving to Middle Tennessee.
