At the request of Wilson County Commissioners, Scott McCarver, president of Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital (VWCH), presented an update on the state of the hospital at the December commission meeting. Highlights included VWCH’s recent designation as a Grade A and Top General Hospital from The Leapfrog Group, ongoing investments in the hospital through capital spending and adding key service lines to meet the needs of the community.
“It was an honor to be invited,” McCarver said. “Our commissioners dedicate their time to improving our community, and it was very kind of them to take the time to recognize the hard work of our entire team.”
McCarver introduced six VWCH employees chosen by their directors to represent departments that are vital to the success of patient care:
- Transport: Hunter Clark
- Case management: Michelle Elmore, RN
- Registration: LeAnn Allen
- Physical Therapy: Kylie Pitman
- Radiation Oncology: Kendal Bourke
- Med/Surg Nursing: Debbie Winfree-Jennings
“I wanted the commissioners to hear from me about the accomplishments, but I wanted them to understand that the Leapfrog accolades come as a result of years of work to change the culture within the hospital here in Lebanon,” McCarver said. “It takes every team member committed to patient safety and the highest level of care to achieve these grades. I also want our staff to know that they are being acknowledged by their neighbors for contributing to our local hospital that provides outstanding care without driving into Nashville.”
Wilson County commissioners recognized VWCH for their many contributions to the community and gave them a standing ovation.
“Thanks to Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital, Wilson County residents have top-notch health care at their front door,” said commissioner Jerry McFarland. “Not only are they keeping up with the demands of a rapidly growing county, but they are also exceeding expectations and winning awards on a national level. My fellow commissioners and I are impressed by the strides they’ve made since being acquired by Vanderbilt in 2019 and excited about their expansion plans into urology services, bariatric surgery and opening additional inpatient beds.”
