Early-career investigators

Henry Henderson, PhD, was one of 16 researchers selected to participate in the American Association for Cancer Research’s Early-Career Investigator Hill Day on Feb. 27 in Washington, D.C. While there, he met with U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn and discussed funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute with a member of the senator’s health policy staff.

One-two punch for cancer

A drug combination effectively killed aggressive blood cancers in cell and animal models; now it’s being tested in patients.

Hockey Fights Cancer provides an opportunity to bring special guests from Children’s Hospital to Bridgestone Arena and to let the young hockey fans have a one-of-a-kind experience with the Nashville Predators. All money raised during the games benefits the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund at Children’s Hospital to support childhood cancer initiatives.

Blair School of Music junior Javin Bose, left, recently played cello for visitor Angela Pursley and her mother, ICU patient Linda Saddler. The live performance was part of the Therapeutic Music in the ICU pilot project, which studies the effect of live music on ICU patients, staff and families. Since the program began in January, volunteers have played more than 85 hours for patients. Vanderbilt musicians are still needed for the study. Major road closures to again affect I-65, I-440, Franklin Road March 20-23

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced plans for bridge work at the interchange of Interstate 65 and Interstate 440 which will require the complete closure of the interchange from Friday, March 20 at 9 p.m. through Monday, March 23 at 5 a.m.
