Lung cancer patients and advocates visit VUMC research labs

Jagasia to succeed Neuss as VICC Chief Medical Officer
Jun. 12, 2018—After successfully leading Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) through years of growth in patient volumes and enhanced care options, Michael Neuss, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the VICC Clinical Enterprise, is retiring as CMO. Neuss will be succeeded by Madan Jagasia, MBBS, MSCI, MMHC, who has been named to the George and Beverly Rawlings Directorship and is section chief, Hematology and Stem Cell Transplant and director of the Outpatient Stem Cell Clinic.

New method to thwart false positives in CT-lung cancer screening
May. 24, 2018—A team of investigators led by Fabien Maldonado, MD, associate professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt, and Tobias Peikert, MD, assistant professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, has identified a new technology to address false positives in CT-based lung cancer screening. The study was published in the latest issue of PLOS One.

Cancer Center’s annual scientific retreat set for May 3

Agreement renewal bolsters liver tumor research
Apr. 12, 2018—Sirtex Medical Ltd. has renewed a grant award to Dan Brown, MD, professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and chief of Interventional Oncology, and his Vanderbilt Health colleagues, for a research program designed to treat patients with liver tumors that cannot be addressed with surgery.
VICC breast cancer leaders named Komen Scholars

Entertainers’ support strengthens VICC melanoma research efforts
Apr. 12, 2018—Henry Paul and Dave Robbins, members of country music group BlackHawk, as well as southern rock band The Outlaws, recently donated $40,000 to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) in support of melanoma research. Since 2006, the band members have generated more than $100,000 for VICC.
