Phyllis Streiff and Nashville Fire Department Chaplain James Lassiter teamed up to raise money to open a burn unit at Vanderbilt. During its long and storied history, Vanderbilt has truly been a lifesaver for all burn patients as Tennessee’s only dedicated burn center serving both adults and children. 

Jacob Pooser, RN, works in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. He is one of the latest Vanderbilt Health DAISY Award winners.

To prepare for his graduation ceremony, Carter Williamson had his own goal. He wanted to walk across the stage to accept his diploma. 

Zavala was the first to receive the Leader in Transplant Administration Award from the OPTN/UNOS Transplant Administrators Committee for his significant contributions to and positive impact on the field. 

The team used an Impella, a catheter-based miniature ventricular assist device. It offered the best chance of getting rising eighth-grader Van Sung to transplant.

The annual awards honor heroic actions by emergency medical services providers who gave exemplary care to both adult and pediatric patients.

In two panel discussions, VUMC experts described ways to “scale-up and spread” the impact of health care interventions across systems, and the importance of patient-centered learning health system research.
