Alice Ingram Hooker, longtime supporter of VUMC and Children’s Hospital, dies at 85

Alice Ingram Hooker, a longtime supporter of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and former chair of their boards, died July 23 after an extended illness.

Patient Cole Ringer, 2, and his mother, Emilie, are delighted to interact with volunteers Swoosh the dog and his handler, Michelle Thompson, at the annual Dog Days of Summer Paw-ty on July 17 at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The event featured a dog show, a meet-and-greet with pet volunteers and updates on the Mars Petcare Pet Therapy Fund and the upcoming arrival of Children’s Hospital’s facility dog.

Benzodiazepine use with opioids intensifies neonatal abstinence syndrome

Babies born after being exposed to both opioids and benzodiazepines before birth are more likely to have severe drug withdrawal, requiring medications like morphine for treatment, compared to infants exposed to opioids alone.
