curriculum 2.0

A team of Vanderbilt University students in medicine, business, public health and economic development competed March 29 in an international Global Health Case Competition at Emory University in Atlanta.

With initial implementation of Curriculum 2.0 well underway, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) is focusing on plans for the Immersion Phase, which comprises the final two years of the program.

This semester Vanderbilt University School of Medicine introduced a new Evening Elective Program designed for medical and nursing students, residents and fellows with the goal of developing well-rounded health care professionals.

Recent sweeping changes to undergraduate medical education at Vanderbilt are intended to produce physicians who are better attuned to teamwork and more accustomed to leading teams to improve clinical outcomes, quality and patient safety.

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine has created a new office to manage the technical support necessary to make the dramatic shift in educational techniques under Curriculum 2.0.

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Class of 2017 arrived on campus in July with a big agenda before them. In addition to acclimating to new surroundings and faces, these students will also be stepping into a new, and nationally recognized, medical education model.

Willie Melvin, M.D., assistant professor of Surgery, trains residents and more advanced medical students, so he was pleasantly surprised by first year Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students Darin Diiorio and Shaun Mansour, who had no clinical experience before arriving in his clinic last September.
