VUSM faculty honored with emerita or emeritus status

Vanderbilt University recently honored several faculty members for their years of service and bestowed on them the title of emeritus or emerita faculty. Among them were 15 from the School of Medicine.

Haynes named interim chair of Otolaryngology

David Haynes, MD, has been named interim chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) effective July 1. He will serve in this role until Eben Rosenthal, MD, the John and Ann Doerr Medical Director and associate director of Clinical Care with Stanford Cancer Center, joins Vanderbilt University Medical Center as the department’s next chair on Oct. 11.

Early intervention eases laryngeal injury healing

Alexander Gelbard, MD, associate professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, reported in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery that early intervention treatment for acute laryngeal injury after intubation may prevent tracheostomy dependence and the need for additional surgical procedures.
