Event highlights crucial role of philanthropy at VUMC

Individuals who provide annual philanthropic support for key areas at Vanderbilt University Medical Center were recognized at the Canby Robinson Society Reception on May 21.

After students, families and the community danced the night away for 13.1 hours, the Vanderbilt University Dance Marathon student executive committee unveiled how much money had been raised for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Family’s experience spurs creation of fellowship

Carol Ann Gavin became critically ill on Super Bowl Sunday in 2010 while vacationing in Florida. But after two surgeries for a bowel obstruction at a Florida hospital, her husband, Charles Gavin III, asked that she be flown home to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he knew she would get unequaled health care at one of finest medical centers in the country.
