CMS assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals each year based on 46 quality measures. The more stars a hospital receives, the better its performance is, based on the metrics CMS assesses.

Bick will succeed Nancy Cox, PhD, who has led Genetic Medicine since she came to VUMC in 2015. Genetic Medicine is one of 13 divisions in the Department of Medicine.

The role will concentrate on several initiatives meant to enhance the health and safety of NFL players and is an extension of Terry’s expertise and work on sport-related concussion and cumulative head impacts.

In this newly created role, he will oversee VUMC's enterprise-wide internal and external business development, market positioning and growth strategies, as well as strategic transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and other affiliations.

VUMC is collaborating with Nurses Middle College Nashville (Nurses MC), a proposed public charter school, which is seeking approval from the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission to prepare high school students for careers in nursing.

Since 2007, Hyundai Hope on Wheels, which includes funding from Hyundai Motor America and local dealerships, has awarded more than $2 million in funding to pediatric cancer researchers at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

A real-world learning health system was established at VUMC a decade ago. Now, the National Human Genome Research Institute is awarding two five-year grants totaling $12 million to support VUMC’s participation in, and coordination of, a genomic-enabled learning health system (gLHS) network.
