The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently presented awards to 29 recipients at its annual Educational Conference, recognizing noteworthy achievements from a wide range of talented graduate medical education professionals.

While Vanderbilt University School of Medicine student Jon Alverio was on rotation with the Vanderbilt Health Palliative Care team, he witnessed the confusion patients often have as they try to complete an advance directive for health care, and he decided to do something about it.

Match Day is the crowning moment of the National Resident Match Program, which matches thousands of medical students with residency programs at medical centers and hospitals across the country. On March 15, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Match Day ceremony was one for the books.

Kyla Terhune, MD, MBA, associate professor Surgery and director of the Surgery Residency Training Program in the Section of Surgical Sciences, has been named Vice President for Educational Affairs for Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education for Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Her appointment is effective July 1.

Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine is in the process of selecting its first class of students seeking a Master of Genetic Counseling (MGC) degree, one of the fastest growing health professions in the country.

Celeste Hemingway, MD, recently received the Focused Practice Designation in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The board designation is fairly new, and Hemingway is the first Vanderbilt physician to achieve the recognition.
