VUSM joins initiative to transform medical education

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) has been chosen to be a part of the newly formed Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education (Kern Institute), a national initiative to transform medical education across the continuum from pre-medical school to physician practice.

Vanderbilt Women in Surgery

The Section of Surgical Sciences recently hosted an inaugural Vanderbilt Women in Surgery event that featured a panel discussion with three prominent female Nashville surgeons: Bonnie Miller, M.D., Senior Associate Dean for Health Sciences Education and Executive Vice President for Educational Affairs; Gretchen Jackson, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Pediatric Surgery; and Jeanne Ballinger, M.D., general surgeon with Saint Thomas Health.

Barnett named co-chair of VUSM Admissions Committee

Joey Barnett, Ph.D., has been named co-chair of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Admissions Committee, effective July 1.

Anesthesiology creates perioperative medicine fellowship

The department of Anesthesiology has created a new training program, the Fellowship in Perioperative Medicine, set to launch in July. The multidisciplinary 12-month program has slots for up to four fellows, and is open to physicians who’ve completed residency in either Anesthesiology or General Surgery.

The Master of Science in Applied Clinical Informatics program (MSACI) is now accepting applications for fall 2017.
