Two highly regarded Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) infectious disease clinicians were recognized with service awards from prominent organizations during IDWeek in San Diego, California, Oct. 4-8.
William Schaffner, M.D., professor of Preventive Medicine in the Department of Health Policy and professor of Medicine, received the 2017 SHEA Senior Scholarship Award from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).
SHEA is the premier national professional organization of infection control epidemiologists. Past presidents of the organization include both Schaffner and Allen Kaiser, M.D., professor of Medicine and associate chief of Clinical Staff.
The SHEA Senior Scholarship Award recognizes the work of an investigator/practitioner in infection prevention/health care epidemiology who has made important contributions over many years.
Kathryn Edwards, M.D., professor of Pediatrics and the Sarah H. Sell and Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS).
PIDS is the world’s largest organization of professionals dedicated to the treatment, control and eradication of infectious diseases affecting children. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes a member who has made an outstanding contribution to the specialty of pediatric infectious diseases.
