The tradition dates back decades. At holiday time, a group of Vanderbilt School of Medicine students would spread some Christmas cheer by caroling for patients in Vanderbilt University Hospital.
Then came the pandemic.
Last year, the first Christmas of COVID, students improvised by caroling via a video that was available all over the hospital. See the story here.
For Christmastime 2021 though, students were back caroling in person again.
Due to infection precautions, going from unit to unit in the hospital is still not possible. But a group of student carolers, made up of Beth Cosby, Ansley Kunnath, Sriram Cyr, Sharon Fernandez and Amber Wesoloski, performed outdoors on the VUH Plaza for passers-by this week.
The quintet, armed with battery-powered candles for ambiance, sang a selection of carols as the winter darkness fell on an unseasonably warm Dec. 14, just before the beginning of the students’ winter break.
