Flu season is right around the corner and now is the time to gear up as a peer vaccinator. The Occupational Health Peer Vaccination Program (PVP) is an easy and convenient way for units and clinics to help their teams receive the flu vaccine and meet compliance requirements.
“If your work unit is eligible to provide flu vaccines to coworkers, we encourage you to register early as a peer vaccinator,” notes Ana Nobis, MD, MPH, medical director of Occupational Health Clinic. “Not only does the program save you time, but it helps your team increase their vaccination rates without having to leave their work unit.”
Eligible departments, units, and clinics are encouraged to complete the early registration process in preparation for the September availability of the flu vaccine.
Through the PVP, individuals can register as a Peer Vaccinator to administer the flu vaccine to their coworkers. The designated vaccinator must be a licensed nurse, pharmacist, physician assistant, or medical assistant under supervision of an RN. For program details and to begin the registration process, visit the Peer Vaccination Program site.
For teams that have participated in the PVP in the past, it’s important to note that your peer vaccinators must register at the beginning of each flu season.
As a reminder, all VUMC employees need to receive and document their flu vaccination or have an approved exemption by Nov. 1. For more information about the flu vaccine, visit the Occupational Health Fight the Flu site.
