David G. Harrison, MD, the Betty and Jack Bailey Professor of Cardiology and director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, has been awarded the American Heart Association’s Basic Research Prize for 2018.

Four Vanderbilt University researchers are among 200 recipients of this year’s Young Investigator Grants awarded by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation to support “innovative ideas for groundbreaking neurobiological research.”

Margaret Haney, PhD, director of the Cannabis Research Laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center, will discuss “The Yin and Yang of Cannabis,” Friday, Nov. 16, during the second annual Science Day hosted by the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research (VCAR).

Paul Ridker, MD, MPH, the Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will present the 12th annual Meredith S. and John A. Oates Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacology, on Thursday, Nov. 15, during Medicine Grand Rounds.

Setting the tone for the morning’s presentations, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s fall Leadership Assembly began with a stirring rendition of the Aretha Franklin classic, “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.,” performed by the Medical Center’s United Voices of Vanderbilt choir.

Stephen Baylin, MD, a trailblazer in the study of the epigenetics of cancer, will deliver the next Flexner Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 8. His lecture, sponsored by the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, will begin at 4 p.m. in room 208 Light Hall.
