Sarah Jaser, PhD, associate professor of Pediatrics, has been named the inaugural director for the new Division of Pediatric Psychology within the Department of Pediatrics.

Foreign bodies, like coins, button batteries, tiny magnets and sharp objects, were more frequently ingested by children during the coronavirus pandemic than in the same months the year before, according to a single-center study conducted at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt patient Madeline Heard served as the virtual patient ambassador for the Iroquois Steeplechase on Saturday, June 26.

“We are seeing a spike in respiratory illnesses, especially RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and parainfluenza, which cause croup and bronchiolitis in young children and flu-like symptoms in older children and adults,” said James Antoon, MD, PhD, FAAP, assistant professor of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
