Cross named to Beryl Institute’s Pediatric Advisory Council

Janet Cross, MEd, administrative director of Patient- and Family-Centered Care at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, has been named a member of the inaugural Pediatric Advisory Council for the Beryl Institute.

Children’s Hospital surgery waiting area receives redesign

Children and families anticipating surgery or other procedures at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt now have a newly renovated area designed with therapeutic and diversionary activities to engage them as they wait.

Ray Cruz, a patient at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, performed the national anthem at the Nashville Predators Hockey Fights Cancer night. The event brings special guests from Children’s Hospital to Bridgestone Arena for a one-of-a-kind experience. Patients are able to tour the locker rooms, meet the team, ride the Zamboni and join the players on the ice. Over the past eight years combined, the team has provided more than $2 million in donations and in-kind contributions to Children’s Hospital and its programs.

Hockey Fights Cancer

The grand staircase in the lobby of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital was closed for 14 months while construction crews installed two additional elevators. The staircase, which connects the main lobby to the second floor of the hospital, reopened Feb. 25.

Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt reopened its hallmark grand staircase and full lobby Feb. 25, marking a significant milestone in the hospital expansion which is entering the final stages before the first two new floors open later this year.

Children’s Hospital honors Carells with balcony dedication

In the building and creation of Nashville’s first and only freestanding children’s hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. and his wife, Ann Scott Carell, were involved every step of the way.

Mobility protocol yields positive results in pediatric ICU

For years Kristina Betters, MD, assistant professor of Pediatric Critical Care at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, has been aware of the value of getting patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) moving during their critical illnesses to prevent muscle breakdown, weakness and delirium.
