Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt reopened its hallmark grand staircase and full lobby Feb. 25, marking a significant milestone in the hospital expansion which is entering the final stages before the first two new floors open later this year.

In the building and creation of Nashville’s first and only freestanding children’s hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. and his wife, Ann Scott Carell, were involved every step of the way.

The 2019 Regalando Amor Radiotón — Gifting Love Radiothon — benefiting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14, and Friday, Feb.15, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Junior League of Nashville held its annual “wrapping party” on Monday, Dec. 10, where volunteers wrapped gifts and toys to be distributed to patients at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

In 1938, Frank Boehm’s parents fled Nazi Germany, where relatives on his father’s side would later be rounded up and sent to the death camps, never to return. “Fortunately, my dad had the vision and foresight to get out of Germany while he still could,” Boehm said.
