Karp to succeed Beauchamp as Surgical Section leader

After successfully leading Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Section of Surgical Sciences and serving as the Medical Center’s Surgeon-in-Chief since 2001, R. Daniel Beauchamp, MD, the John Clinton Foshee Distinguished Professor of Surgery, is stepping down. Beauchamp will be succeeded in this role by Seth Karp, MD, H. William Scott Jr. Professor and chair of the Department of Surgery and director of the Vanderbilt Transplant Center.

Change positions Department of Urologic Surgery for sustained growth

Beginning July 1, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Urologic Surgery, which is currently housed within the Medical Center’s Section of Surgical Sciences, will become an independent department.

Mathis named chief compliance officer for UW Medicine in Seattle

James Mathis, JD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s (VUMC) Chief Compliance Officer, has accepted a new position as Chief Compliance Officer for UW Medicine, the academic health system of the University of Washington in Seattle. Mathis will depart VUMC on Jan. 22.

Kennedy named chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

David J. “D.J.” Kennedy, MD, clinical associate professor and residency program director in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with Stanford University’s Department of Orthopaedics, has been named chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Kennedy will join the faculty on April 1.

Task Force for Physician Empowerment makes recommendations

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Task Force for Empowerment and Well-being, a 16-member multidisciplinary group formed earlier this year to develop a deeper understanding of the nationwide problem of physician burnout and suggest solutions at VUMC, has made its initial recommendations.
