Michael Regier, J.D., has been named to the newly created role of General Counsel and Secretary for Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Regier comes to VUMC from Atlantic Health System where he served as Vice President for Legal Affairs and Chief Legal Officer.

Arthur P. “Art” Wheeler, M.D., professor of Medicine and the longtime director of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Adult Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), died Thursday, Dec. 17, from cancer. He was 58.

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) — the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging — recently presented Walter Frontera, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with its 2015 Excellence in Rehabilitation of Aging Persons Award.

James Crowe Jr., M.D., director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Center, and Anthony Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), recently participated in a U.S. Senate National Institutes of Health (NIH) caucus briefing held in Washington, D.C., by Senate NIH caucus co-chairs Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL).

After serving in an interim capacity, Walter Clair, M.D., MPH, associate professor of Medicine and medical director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, has been named executive medical director of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI).

After serving more than 30 years as the leader of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Facilities and Plant Services, Ken Browning, assistant vice chancellor for Facilities and Construction, is handing over these responsibilities to Gary Streaty, who will serve as the department’s new executive director.
