The Vanderbilt Eye Institute (VEI) was recently awarded the Commitment to Advocacy Award during the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) annual meeting.

Investigators at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have published research regarding an important feature of colorectal cancer (CRC) that could eventually lead to the development of non-invasive means of monitoring cancer progression. After lung cancer, CRC is the second-most lethal cancer in the United States.

Noted anesthesiologist, neuroscientist and statistician Emery Brown, M.D., Ph.D., of the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology, discussed the mysteries of anesthesia during his recent Flexner Discovery Lecture.

The Nashville Health Care Council is naming Vanderbilt’s Sam Chang, M.D., MBA, professor of Urologic Surgery and Oncology, and Neal Patel, M.D., professor of Clinical Pediatrics, to its 2016 Council Fellows class, selected by the Council Fellows Advisory Committee led by former U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D.

Gilbert Omenn, M.D., Ph.D., director of the University of Michigan Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, will deliver the next Flexner Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Vanderbilt will conduct a test of the VUMC Notification System at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22.
