VUMC receives $51 million in NIH grants to improve efficiency of conducting clinical trials across the US
Vanderbilt researchers have been awarded two five-year federal grants totaling $51 million to harness new and existing approaches for boosting recruitment and removing roadblocks to the efficiency of conducting clinical trials throughout the country. -

VUMC participates in national study to test eye drops for nearsightedness in children
A multi-institutional study found that low-dose atropine eyedrops, commonly used in a higher dose to treat lazy eye, was no better than a placebo at slowing myopia (nearsightedness) progression and elongation of the eye among children treated for two years. -

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has received a $7 million, five-year funding award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to compare two sedatives used to place breathing tubes in the emergency department or intensive care unit. -

World-first clinical trial to help millions with penicillin allergies
Many low-risk patients with a penicillin allergy were able to have their penicillin allergy label removed through a simple procedure known as “direct oral challenge” as part of a world-first multicenter randomized control trial known as the Penicillin Allergy Clinical Decision Rule (PALACE) study. -

Rett syndrome drug studied at Vanderbilt approved for patients
The first drug to treat the symptoms of Rett syndrome was recently approved, following a Nature Medicine study publishing results from the pivotal phase 3 LAVENDER study led by investigators from Vanderbilt University Medical Center to evaluate efficacy and safety of trofinetide.
