Vanderbilt University biochemist Stanley Cohen, PhD, whose discovery of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor earned him a Nobel Prize and opened the door to a new class of cancer therapies, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Nashville. He was 97.

George Allen, MD, PhD, an innovative surgeon who served for more than 25 years as chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt, died Dec. 7. He was 77.

Lawrence Berman, MD, PhD, MS, professor of Anesthesiology, emeritus, died Nov. 18 at 90.

Jane Wilkerson Yount, a longtime supporter of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center and a former member of its board of directors, died Nov. 18. She was 88.

Howard Fuchs, MD, professor of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, died unexpectedly Oct. 28. He was 64.

David Page, MD, former professor of Pathology and Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, whose work revolutionized the assessment of breast cancer risk, died in Nashville on Thursday, Oct. 17. He was 78.
