Renowned Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt cardiologist Thomas P. Graham Jr., MD, who founded and led the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Vanderbilt for 33 years, died Wednesday, March 18. He was 83.

Bradley E. Smith, MD, former professor and chair of the Vanderbilt’s Department of Anesthesiology, died March 20 in Nashville after a long battle with cancer. He was 86.

Vanderbilt University biochemist Stanley Cohen, PhD, whose discovery of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor earned him a Nobel Prize and opened the door to a new class of cancer therapies, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Nashville. He was 97.

George Allen, MD, PhD, an innovative surgeon who served for more than 25 years as chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt, died Dec. 7. He was 77.

Lawrence Berman, MD, PhD, MS, professor of Anesthesiology, emeritus, died Nov. 18 at 90.

Jane Wilkerson Yount, a longtime supporter of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center and a former member of its board of directors, died Nov. 18. She was 88.

Howard Fuchs, MD, professor of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, died unexpectedly Oct. 28. He was 64.
