Vanderbilt University School of Medicine continues to make impressive strides in research funding, rankings and faculty accomplishments, Dean Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, said Friday during the spring faculty meeting.

The annual awards highlight outstanding achievements by women in the biological sciences.

Cathy Eng, MD, will participate in a congressional briefing on April 15 focused on “Addressing Representation in Clinical Trials.”

Transformational scientific achievement in bench-to-bedside translational research forms the criterion for the ACTS Edward H. Ahrens Jr. Distinguished Investigator Award, given annually by the Association for Clinical and Translational Science.

Chris Williams, MD, PhD, associate dean for Physician-Scientist Education and Training at Vanderbilt University, has been named to lead Research Education at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

Karen Winkfield, MD, PhD, Ingram Professor of Cancer Research, has been named associate director for Community Outreach and Engagement at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

Jennifer Pietenpol, PhD, will be recognized at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with one of its highest honors.
