As Vanderbilt Health grows, it’s important for all of us — longtime employees and new hires alike — to have a standard way to refer to our locations and facilities.

This terminology guide is the current official listing of the facility names, locations, services and acronyms that, for clarity, we all need to use when communicating with each other.

The latest edition of the institution’s standard guide to referring to our locations and facilities. The main new change is that “Central Campus” (not “Main Campus”) is the preferred term for the location of the facilities and programs on 21st Avenue South, including Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, The Vanderbilt Clinic and all ambulatory programs, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital.

The previous edition made the change, which continues, in the use of Vanderbilt Health, rather than Vanderbilt University Medical Center or VUMC, as the health system brand name. This is now becomes the standard, for both internal and external uses, to reflect our distinction as the region’s leading academic health system.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center and VUMC will remain the institution’s legal entity, and our email addresses remain vumc.org. Otherwise, Vanderbilt Health will be used to reflect all three areas of the enterprise — clinical, research, and teaching and training.

New facilities, including the Jim Ayers Tower and Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital, are also a part of the guide, with clear instructions on how to use their names. The guide also contains an extensive list of affiliated entity acronyms and shared clinical services terminology for internal purposes. Another new addition is “Pediatric Ambulatory Division,” which refers to the part of Vanderbilt Health that operates 30 outpatient clinics across three states and one surgery center in Middle Tennessee.

It’s critically important for any organization’s long-term success for everyone to be able to speak the same language, whether we are speaking with each other or communicating with the public. This document provides a guide for accurately doing so for internal uses.

Here you can find the latest information about our brand standards. This page includes branded templates, including a recommendation for reflecting Vanderbilt Health in email signatures. This page will be updated as new features are added.
