Erik Hess, MD, MSc, professor and interim chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, has been named the new chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He will join the faculty on July 1.

As part of a multi-year regional growth plan for the Vanderbilt Health system, Vanderbilt University Medical Center has filed a public notice with the State of Tennessee’s Health Services Development Agency and will seek approval to build a 48-bed, 154,000 square foot full service, acute care hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Roger Dmochowski, MD, MMHC, has been named Interim Vice President for Perioperative Services for Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).

Shon Dwyer, MBA, RN, executive director of Michigan Medicine’s (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) University Hospital and Frankel Cardiovascular Center, has been named the new president of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital (VUAH).

Gerald Hickson, MD, Joseph C. Ross Professor of Medical Education and Administration, will assume new leadership and advisory roles with the Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) and the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network (VHAN), beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

W. Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, has been named as interim chair of the Department of Medicine in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Her appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2020.
